Solomon Islands Prime Minister Minister Manasseh Sogavare has witnessed the signing of the ‘Implementation Agreement of the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium Project’ in Honiara.
Delivering his remarks at the occasion Wednesday, the Prime Minister said this is yet again another historical milestone in our relationship with the people and the Government of the Peoples Republic of China.
“Just over one year after establishing our diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, we sign the Implementation Agreement of the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium Project,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the project, which comprises seven separate infrastructures, is believe to be one of the largest infrastructure projects, funded and built by the People’s Republic of China in any of PRCs partner Pacific Island countries.
“For this gift, I convey my sincere gratitude to the President, the government, and people of the People’s Republic of China,” he said.
The seven infrastructures will include:
i. A 10,000-seat national stadium which includes 1,000 VIP seats,
ii. An Aquatic centre hosting a 50-meter competition pool, and a 25-meter training pool,
iii. A six-court tennis centre
iv. A full-sized training track and field with a full-sized soccer/ rugby field
v. A 90 meters by 50 meters multi-purpose hall
vi. A 5-aside competition hockey field
vii. A double story food court and office space building for the Games Organising Committee.
Prime Minister Sogavare said members of the Government Caucus were thrilled and impressed by the presentation from the Central-South Architectural Design Institute [CSADI] team.
He said the scope of work, the level of details, and the philosophy behind the design were impressive.
“Allow me on behalf of the government to thank the CSADI team for their excellent work,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the 2023 Pacific Games ‘Friendship project’ bears testimony to the strengthening and consolidation of the relationship between both countries.
Prime Minister Sogavare said he is very encouraged by the proposed construction schedule and timelines for the project, with the aim to complete all the facilities before the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The 2023 Pacific Games Stadium project will transform Honiara. The facilities will be a legacy for our young generations, our youths in years to come,” he said.
