PNG Government honours Grand Chief Somare ‘will’ to rest him at his home province

The country’s founding father will be finally laid to rest at the Somare Museum at Kreer Heights in East Sepik province. 
Prime Minister James Marape announced this today, (Sunday, 28th February 2021). 
The decision was approved by the cabinet after three consecutive days of the meeting. 
Mr. Marape says the decision was based on his will which he says can not be tampered with by anyone. 


The decision by Cabinet was welcomed by,  Late Somare’s son,  Arthur Somare, and East Sepik Governor Allan Bird.
 A special Parliament sitting will convene on the 12th of March with a state funeral held in the afternoon at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.
Meanwhile, NCD will host a national wake (haus krai) starting tomorrow at 6 pm at the Sir Jonh Guise Stadium. 
Governor Parkop says arrangements are made to allow two provinces at a time to pay their last respect.
